August 2019 | Jacinta Atkinson, Senior Associate, Maddocks

Jacinta specialises in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Jacinta has worked on a number of complex commercial and corporations law disputes, intellectual property matters including pharmaceutical patent and copyright matters and media law disputes including defamation and reputation management (traditional and social media), in the Supreme Court of Victoria and Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and Full Federal Court and the High Court of Australia. Jacinta is conscious of her clients’ commercial and legal objectives, and works with them to adopt a strategic practical approach to managing and resolving their disputes.

I became a lawyer because...I wanted the glitz and glamour...I've stayed a lawyer because of my passion for the law, the litigator's high, constantly being kept on my toes and a drive to achieve the best results for my clients.

The best advice I ever received was...Never underestimate the value of listening to more than the words being spoken.

What have you learnt about yourself in the last year? That I am not constrained by excuses, stereotypes and fears - the person you surprise the most can even be yourself.

If I wasn't a lawyer...I would be a pilot, plastic surgeon, a singer/actress or a fitness instructor - a diverse selection.
