The most rewarding part of my job is…

Interacting with a culturally diverse and multi-generational group of students on a daily basis. No two students are the same and all have motivating and sometimes thought-provoking stories about their journey through law school and their incentive for completing PLT. I have had the opportunity to develop some long-lasting connections with individuals with vastly different experiences and life trajectories than my own and this has been an invaluable lesson in appreciating the life that I have had.

To me, mentorship means…

Developing a relationship that is valuable and meaningful to both the mentor and the mentee. Although there is usually a focus on career development, by reflecting on a mentee’s personal life, empathising with their struggles and successes allows me to better assist them to navigate our challenging times and make the most of opportunities that present themselves. It is definitely a two-way street with some of my biggest personal insights evolving from my conversations with mentees. I would definitely recommend mentoring to anyone who might be considering getting involved in the future.

A typical workday for me…

Has a strong focus on helping my students develop the requisite skills they need to enter the profession as early career lawyers, confident in their ability to undertake the work tasks that they are assigned. This focus flows through everything I do at the college, be it running workshops, drafting feedback, assessing students or assisting with our course development.

Outside of work I enjoy…

Every moment I can be outdoors in the sunshine with my family, and particularly when I am surrounded by our multitude of animals. Life is full of surprises, and I’ve learnt that there are many more things that make an impact in my life than just my career, so nothing is more valuable to me than spending quality time with my family and friends.
