VWL has launched Gender on the Agenda: A Survey of the Victorian Legal Profession and is seeking responses by Monday 15 October 2018.

The pay gap in the legal sector is close to 30%.  This is partially explained by occupational segregation but that’s not the full explanation.  Women make up only 10% of CEOs or managing partners in law firms but account for 70% of the industry including the majority of junior lawyers.

Gender on the Agenda aims to help us understand when and how women lawyers encounter the pay gap and how and why it becomes entrenched.  VWL are seeking input from all employers on pay gap analysis, PAE levels, parental and carer leave policies, flexible work practices, career progression and pay transparency.

Employers will also have the option of sharing their de-identified policies to contribute towards the development of best practice guidelines.

Those employers leading the way will have the option of nominating for the inaugural VWL Pay Equity Award.

Employers can register to participate via https://smsurveys.com.au/anon/2458.aspx

Employees can get involved by in a separate survey forming part of this same project.  The Employee survey is anonymous and confidential and can be accessed here: https://smsurveys.com.au/anon/2453.aspx.
