Katrina Stuart | Principal, Stuart Family Lawyers

I love practising law because…

I started my career as a family lawyer with a desire to help other people and a love of the law.  I have worked as a family lawyer for over a decade, assisting clients going through a separation with the division of assets, spousal maintenance, arrangements for children and child support. I enjoy the intellectual rigours, the new challenges and problems I get to solve each day, and the rewarding relationships with clients and colleagues.

To me, mentoring means…

Mentoring to me means actively supporting other lawyers to grow in their roles and realise their potential.  I have benefited from mentors throughout my career and am passionate about paying it forward to the emerging young talent within the law community.

A career highlight of mine is…

A career highlight of mine has been creating a business, brand and culture that embodies my own personal values and approach to the law.   In July 2020 I started Stuart Family Lawyers.  I was very lucky to have a great team (my PA and junior lawyer) set up the firm with me.  We have now been operating for 2 and a half years and our team of three has grown to a team of six.  I am enjoying the extra dimension that being a business owner has added to my job and skill set as a lawyer.

Outside of the law I enjoy…

Honestly, being a new business owner, and a bit of a perfectionist, I spend a lot of my time inside the law.  Any free time I have I spend with my husband and two children or practicing self-care with some Pilates or gin.
