About the program

Victorian Women Lawyers is thrilled to announce the launch of its inaugural Expert Witness Examination Competition, proudly sponsored by Lex Medicus.

The competition aims to provide women lawyers with the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and advocacy skills, by having participants examine expert witnesses to advance their case in a mock trial.

The competition will be held on Tuesday, 18 October 2022 and will be adjudicated by members of the Judiciary.

One team will conduct an examination-in-chief of the expert witness (and re-examination), with the opposing team performing the cross-examination. Participants will not be assessed on their understanding of the law, but rather, the effectiveness of their opening and closing statements, the strength of their examinations, and their ability to engage with the experts and ask clear questions to formulate and advance their case.

Lex Medicus will provide the teams (comprising of two Counsel) with an expert witness for the trial. Prior to the competition, we will provide teams a copy of a witness' expert report.

Team places are limited so register your team below as soon as possible to avoid missing out on this exciting new competition.
